Trying to figure out where to stay in Big Bend? You’re in the right place! When it comes to Big Bend lodging, you may think there aren’t a ton of options since the park itself only has one option (more on that later). But, there are plenty of places to stay just outside the park, whether you are planning for family travel or a romantic couples getaway!
We've been to Big Bend several times and finding amazing places to stay in our specialty – we even have a Facebook group where we share a property every day! We only recommended exceptional properties that are highly rated & reviewed.
Big Bend National Park is such a stunning mixture of mountains, desert, & the most beautiful night sky I’ve ever seen (go during the new moon if you can). The park is HUGE, spanning 1,252 square miles of southwest Texas. The entire Chisos Mountain Range is inside park borders, and they provide amazing scenery, fabulous hiking trails & wildlife galore!
Can you tell I am a fan? Clearly, I think you should plan a trip immediately. So, where do you stay in Big Bend National Park? Let’s dive in and find the perfect place for you to stay on your next trip!
Where To Stay In Big Bend National Park
As I mentioned earlier, there is only one lodging option IN the park itself and that is Chisos Mountain Lodge (though you can camp in the park, as well). There are a total of 89 rooms (including 5 cottages) ranging in price. These are great options for more budget-conscious travelers who prefer to be close to the basin area.

The lodge is conveniently located in the heart of the park and there is a restaurant, gift shop, and a convenience store just steps away. You should not expect luxury lodging – these are basic accommodations. But, you can expect a clean, comfortable room & friendly staff, all in a great location. If you are traveling to Big Bend with kids (especially little ones), you may appreciate being located right in the park. It will cut down on driving.
Keep in mind, these rooms fill up FAST!!! You will need to reserve WAY in advance (as in a year or more in advance). Check availability HERE or call (432) 477-2291.
Where to stay in Big Bend – Terlingua/Study Butte
The Terlingua Ghost Town and Study Butte-Terlingua area is very conveniently located just a few miles from the western entrance to the park. Not only are there great places to stay in Terlingua & Study Butte, but there are also several options for places to eat as well as a gas station (one of only a couple in this area) and the local grocery store.
It will be a bit of a drive to get to the Chisos Basin area, but everything around Big Bend is spread far & wide, so it’s nothing unusual (just go ahead and mentally prepare to do some driving). Plus, the more you drive, the more you get to look around and appreciate the gorgeous scenery.
PRO TIP: When looking for a vacation rental property, once you click on a specific property, make sure to click on the heart to save the properties you really like so you can easily find your favorites.
