Sixth Floor Museum

The Sixth Floor Museum is located within the Dallas County Administration Building. The structure is positioned where Elm and Houston Streets meet. It overlooks Dealey Plaza, the location of the assassination of President John F Kennedy.
While it may not be described as one of the fun things to do in Dallas downtown, it certainly is very interesting & informative.
Here you can find out all about John F. Kennedy's life, the legacy he left behind – and of course, details of the assassination.
Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK in the head and neck while he was in Dallas, campaigning in the state of Texas. The President was pronounced dead by 1 pm, and by around 2 pm the suspect had been arrested.
The museum is absorbing and at times a sobering place to visit. It’s ideal for kids learning about American political history and former presidents as well as for adults who want to see artifacts, pictures, evidence, and video footage from the time.

It’s the 13th such set-up in the US and houses a vast collection including a replica Oval Office, archived documents, and well over 40,000 gifts received by the President & first lady while he was in office.
The library is about so much more than one man. It exists to educate the public about eight years of American history, other world leaders, social policy, and politics.

If you’re going to take the kids to just one museum, best make it this one! With five levels of amazing exhibits to explore, it’s ideal for those wondering what to do in Dallas, Texas on a rainy day (or even on a dry one).
This museum in Victory Park is devoted to science and nature, and there is all manner of things to see. Huge dinosaur fossil skeletons greet all who enter the T. Boone Pickens Life Then and Now Hall, for starters.
Then there’s the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall, where you can see some amazingly sparkly – and colossal – precious and semi-precious gems and stones. This area is my personal favorite!
If you’re feeling brave, try out the tornado simulator to see how this sort of wind feels and learn about how such storms form in the first place.
One of my kiddos' favorite things, when he was little, was the race simulator. Kids can line up and race side by side with a cheetah & various other animals & athletes. The cheetah smoked him, by the way 🙂

Reunion Tower GeO-Deck

Reunion Tower GeO-Deck can be found at Reunion Tower (aka “The Ball”), a building that’s over 550 feet tall. It’s on the Boulevard and in the district of the same name, and is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
The GeO-Deck itself is around 470 feet high and has both indoor and outdoor areas. Visitors can enjoy sweeping, 360-degree views over the city from here.

African American Museum

There are four vaulted galleries filled with fascinating works, including one of America's biggest collections of folk art.

Klyde Warren Park

Opening in 2012, the park now receives around a million visitors per year. Uniquely it’s perched over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway on a purpose-built deck, and cost $110 million to build.
The park was designed by Jim Burnett, an award-winning landscape architect.

The park is home to about 37 species of native flora plus over 300 trees. It’s an ingenious engineering feat as well as a pleasant green space, and seeing the street-level park suspended over an eight-lane freeway has to be seen to be believed!

Kennedy Memorial Plaza

The memorial was opened in 1970 and was designed by Philip Johnson, a renowned architect. Its wide, soaring concrete structures are apparently meant to echo the sense of loss – and shock – felt by the world after the events of November 22nd 1963.
